A Brief Introduction to Chengdu Foreign Languages School (CDFLS)
With the approval of Sichuan Provincial Education Bureau, and being registered in the State Education Ministry, CDFLS was established in 1989 as the first middle school in Sichuan Province with foreign language teaching as its primary characteristic. It is one of the 16 foreign languages schools approved by the State Education Ministry, which has the right to recommend students for admission to key universities without needing to take entrance examinations. It is one of the best schools in Chengdu as well as in Sichuan Province.
CDFLS is located in Chengdu High-Tech West Zone and covers 200 mu (13.3 hectares). Now the CDFLS has about 600 staff members and about 5800 students aged from 13-18 years old, ranging from 7th grade to 12th grade.
The main task of CDFLS is to train students to have a good command of foreign languages and to lay a solid foundation of general knowledge for higher education. All the subjects of a key middle school curriculum are taught, including Foreign Languages, Math, Chinese, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Politics, History, Geography, Computer science, Arts and PE.
Over the past 19 years, CDFLS has made remarkable achievements, her reputation reverberating all over the province because of its high quality education and modern facilities and 100% of CDFLS graduates have passed the National College/University Entrance Examinations, about 70% of who have successfully been enrolled in the key universities. Among them there are a lot of talented and brilliant students, such as Mr. Tang Xiang and Mr. Huang Yongliang ranked first in Sichuan Province respectively in these examinations in arts in 1995 and 1996.; Mr. Wang Ge ranked the first in science in 2004 and Miss Zhang Chen ranked the first in arts in 2007; Miss Xu Yanzhi and Mr. Shu Zhi ranked first respectively in arts and science in 2002 in Chengdu; Miss Liu Yiting, a graduate in 1999 was admitted to Harvard University with a full scholarship; Mr. Yuan Shuai, a graduate in 2007, was admitted to Yale University with a full scholarship; Mr.Zhou Yuxiang, a graduate in 2008, has been admitted to Dartmouth College in USA with a full scholarship.
Long term exchange and mutual visit programs have been initiated and carried out between CDFLS and some reputable schools and colleges in the USA and UK, for example, Landon School and Holton Arms School in Maryland, the Pine School in Florida, Annie Wright School and Washington High School in Washington State of America, ?Lutteroworth High School and Community College, John Leggott College in England. |
